John Aasen - 7 feet 2 inches (218.4 cm)
John Aasen, or Johan Aasen was born on March 5, 1890 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States and died August 1, 1938 in Mendocino, California, United States. He was one of the tallest actors in history. His mother, Kristi Danielsen, supposedly was an extremely tall Norwegian lady of around 220 cm (almost 7 feet 3 inches) in height. But there is no evidence of this. Later information seems to suggest she was 188 cm. tall. It is not certain who his father was, because his mother kept it a secret for her entire life. According to some sources, his father was Nils Janson Bokke, a Swedish man of around 2.44 m (8 feet) tall. According to Aasen, his grandfather was Henrik Brustad. When he was ten years old, John and his mother moved from Ridgeway, Iowa to Sheyenne, North Dakota with his two younger siblings.
John Aasen - Early life
When in Sheyenne, John's mother operated a restaurant. John attended school and helped out in the family business. In 1902 John Aasen's mother passed away. He was taken in to many homes and families . When a family he was staying with started to operate a hotel in Leeds, North Dakota, he moved with them there.
John's growth started slowly. When he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Grandfield Lutheran Church near Sheyenne, North Dakota, he was the shortest in his class. According to some sources, John was around 273 cm (which, if true, would make him taller than even Robert Wadlow). .jpg "The Tallest Man Fact 8")
John Aasen - Movie Career
In 1922, John was offered an acting job in a film called Why Worry? (produced by Hal Roach and released in 1923) alongside the superstar comedian Harold Lloyd. Later, he acted in several other films like Bengal Tiger, Charlie Chan at the Circus, Growing Pains, Should Married Men Go Home?, Legionnaires in Paris, Two Flaming Youths, The Sting of Stings, and Long Fliv the King.
John Aasen - Death
John Aasen died August 1. 1938 at Mendocino State Hospital from pneumonia in Mendocino, California. His body was later shipped to Dr. Humberd in Missouri for study and dissection. The skeleton was kept by Dr. Humberd, but after his death shipped to Loma Linda, California. John's cremated soft parts was sent to a Masonic funeral at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. John Aasens skeleton is situated in Alfred Shryocks Museum in Loma Linda. Dr. Oberg confirmed and verified, based on x-rays taken by Dr. H. Gray in 1937, and comparing the actual skeleton that it is Johan Aasen. Based on his death certificate,the 1937 medical case report by dr. Gray and dr. Humberds autopsy-report on Johan Aasen the skeleton in Loma Linda is 99,99% certain Aasen. His soft parts where buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetary in Colum Barium of Protection.
John Aasen - His true height
According to the 1978 edition of Guinness Book of Records he was only 7 feet (213.4 cm). We know that is not true. Just before his death, at age 46, he was medicallly measured at 7 feet 0.9 inches (note the confusion in the text image below), however he had lost some height due age and could not stand completely straight anymore. But even more convincing: in June 2008 Dr. Kerby Oberg of Loma Linda University confirmed that the 219 cm (7 foot 2.4 inches) skeleton they had in their collection, was Johan Aasen.

1922 - 1923 - acted in Why Worry with Harold Lloyd
1923 - contracted with Sid Graumanns Million Dollar Theater in LA
1923 - Late autumn was hospitalized for 7 weeks due to blood poisoning
1924 - January/February - New York (lives at the Mc Alpine Hotel) on his way to Hawaii
1924/1925 - January with Rhoenix Carnival Company (in Hawaii)
1925 - June he toured with his manager Wayne Barlow of Clear Lake on the fair circuit.
1925 - Starting in August he was on the Rubin & Cherry Shows (The aristocrats of the tents)
1926 - Movie - Long live the King with Charley Chase and Oliver Hardy
1926 - 1927 Dutton Circus
1927 - Movies- Legionaries in Paris, Sting of Stings, Two Flaming Youths (W. C. Fields)
1928 - Fanchon - Marcos Midget Follies
1928 - Movie - Growing Pains/Our Gang for Hal Roach
1929 - 1930 - Turned Elks blab Hawaii, went to Shanghai with Lillian La France
1930 - 1932 - Toured Australia then went to New Zealand for a year.
1933 - Hospitalized with brain tumor and weight problems, in and out of the hospital for a couple of years.
1934 -Toured with midget Major Arthur
1935 - Hospitalized
1936 - Said to have been with Al. G. Barnes Circus.
1936 Movies- Bengal Tiger with June Travis, Charlie Chan, At the Circus with Warner Oland
1937 - Hospitalized at Mendocino State
1938 - Died on 1 August.
